Commercial–Broadway commuters, how you use escalators may change on Sept. 27
The two escalators at Commercial–Broadway Station connecting street level to the Millennium Line platform, which were closed for replacement, are expected to open on Sept. 27.
This means work begins to replace the other two aging escalators which connect the street level (near the E Broadway & Commercial entrances and 99 B-Line stops) to Expo Line platforms 3 and 4. These escalators and the nearby stairs are closed from Friday, Sept. 27 until the replacement is complete in fall 2025.
These escalators have served us since the Millennium Line started more than 20 years ago and are due replacement.
Who’s affected: Customers that use Platform 3 (Expo Line to Waterfront) and Platform 4 (Expo Line to King George, Braid, and Production Way–University Stations).
Customers switching to and from the Millennium Line or buses 9 Commercial–Broadway Station/Boundary, 20 Downtown/Victoria, or 99 Commercial–Broadway/ UBC B-Line are also affected.

What do I need to do: Since the escalators and stairs that normally connect Expo Line platforms 3 and 4 to Millennium Line are closed, customers transferring between Expo and Millennium Line or buses (9, 20, and 99) will need to exit the station and cross the street on Broadway (details below).
💡 Allow an extra five minutes for your transit trip and follow posted in-station directional signs or ask SkyTrain Attendants for help.
- To transfer from Expo Line to the Millennium Line or bus, customers must exit the platform at the opposite end and exit Commercial–Broadway Station on the Safeway side.
From here, customers can cross Broadway and re-enter the station through the entrance beside Shoppers to connect with Millennium Line. Or head to the bus stop to catch their bus.
- To transfer from Millennium Line or bus to Expo Line headed to King George, Braid, and Production Way–University, enter through the station entrance beside Safeway and take the escalators up. Customers transferring from the Millennium Line will need to exit the station from the Shoppers side and cross the street on Broadway.
Additional details
- Commercial-Broadway’s platform 5 with trains headed to Waterfront will be accessible at both ends as normal.
- The elevator that connects platforms 3 and 4 to ground level near Booster Juice will remain in-service for those who need it.
- SkyTrain service is not impacted by the escalator replacement.
- The stairs beside the escalators due replacement are also closed to ensure safety of customers and crews during the construction.
Zoom out: The replacement of these four escalators is part of TransLink’s Maintenance and Upgrade Program, helping us provide a smooth and reliable transit experience for customers now and into the future.
Why is Translink hell-bent on making every escalator project as painful as possible? Other agencies / cities / businesses do not force the public to endure such extended timelines or ridiculous workarounds. Get it together.
