What if you had your own personal pod to take you from your car you parked at the airport to the terminal? Heathrow Airport has done it, and they’re kinda cute! Did I mention they’re good on the environment as well? What do you think of this transportation option compared to our Canada Line to the airport?
- Portland celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Portland Streetcar with live music on the system. I love it!
- Do you need your phone to wake you up before you miss your bus or SkyTrain stop? There’s an app for that. Don’t have an iPhone? There’s an app for Android users too!
- Like the Field of Dreams line, “If you build it, he will come,” the idea with a potential commuter rail line between Noblesville and Downtown Indianapolis is, “If you built it, they will come.”
- Good friend of the Buzzer blog and smart and interesting fella Jarrett Walker has a new book coming out! I’ll have a short interview with him on the blog next week!
- This is really cool. The Albula-Bernina railway line in Switzerland will be the first railway in the world to be given the Google Street View (or should I say, “Rail View”) treatment. Wouldn’t it be awesome to do the same thing for the SkyTrain line? Thanks Dan at TransLink Planning for the link!
- The Masters Planning blog posted these fascinating video documentaries about transforming neighbourhoods in Vancouver. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the word “blight” so many times. Oh, how times have changed!
- A nice bit of history on France’s fast, affordable and environmentally-sustainable high-speed rail system and questions about its future.
- I’ve been interested in maps recently after hearing an interview with Ken Jennings (also known as the master of Jeopardy) on his new book, The Poetry of Maps. I recently came across this boutique Design Shop website with some incredible subway maps. Thanks to Austin’s Metro Blog for pointing me to this!
- The transit map of Austin in the above link is actually fictitious since Austin doesn’t have a subway system. The art has lead people to ask why Austin doesn’t have a subway system.
- It looks like a couple of transit strikes could start as early as this Monday in the Toronto and York regions.
- New Jersey is the latest place you can use Google Wallet to pay for transit.
- I don’t usually think of the SkyTrain when I think of Halloween, but this Halloween SkyTrain Party put on by Vancouver Public Space Network seems like fun!
- Here’s a candid snippet of some questions a New York City subway train operator fielded about the subway system in NYC.
- Like us here in Metro Vancouver, Toronto wrestles with the choice between two modes of transportation for a future transit line. This debate is whether to have a subway or LRT line to Scarborough.
- Here’s someone that’s getting more attention than the Metropolitan Transit Authority in New York City would like. This definetely falls under the Don’t Try This on the Subway! category.

Hi Sheba: It’s a really good point to consider that people sitting on transit next to you may have allergies and might not appreciate you exposing them to your food. I’m working on a transit etiquette campaign at the moment and food will be address for sure!
Thanks for the link! It’s a nice follow up to this video that I posted in May – http://buzzer.translink.ca/index.php/2011/05/links-and-tidbits-for-may-12-2011/
Oye, poor Toronto, and I thought our transit woes were bad…I can only image what things would be like with kookoo-banana-head at the helm.
