Reminder: Quayside Overpass Reroutes
Reminder: Quayside Overpass Reroutes
Mondays take some adjusting to for a lot of us, and that’s especially true if you use the C8 in New Westminister. Starting today, the southbound closure of the Quayside Overpass is closed, so C8 service at the following stops will be discontinued:
59848 NB Carnarvon St NS Quayside Dr
59008 WB Quayside Dr NS Laguna Ct
58746 WB Quayside Dr FS Reliance Ct
58745 WB Quayside Dr FS K De K Ct
The southbound detour routing will begin at WB Columbia St at 10 St then via WB Columbia St, NB Stewardson Way, WB 3 Av Overpass, EB Quayside Dr to regular route beginning again at Quayside Dr at Renaissance Square. While on detour, there will be no local pick up/drop off on the detour portion of the route.
According to our colleagues at the Coast Mountain Bus Company, the construction work is anticipated to take approximately 3 weeks to complete. The work will require the restriction of vehicle traffic to one lane northbound (from Quayside to Carnarvon). Southbound traffic will be detoured via the Third Avenue Overpass or the at-grade crossing at Begbie Street. A temporary sidewalk will be constructed to ensure unimpeded pedestrian access for the duration of construction activity.
You can download a map of the changes by going to the Alerts & Advisories page and clicking on the “Transit Alerts” tab.
The “contractor” has not put any signs on the discontinued stops. This morning we had passengers running across the street to catch the bus, fortunately none of them were the seniors you typically see at those stops. They’ll get their surprise later in the day.
I’m betting if this route was operated by CMBC and wasn’t the forgotten orphaned child of Translink the quality of customer notification would be better. Let’s get this route back integrated with the rest of our transit system please.
When will there be Friday Fun posts?
Ric: Friday fun posts will be back I assure you!
Hi Matt:
I shared your comment about lack of signage for the reroute with my colleagues. Here’s there answer:
Thank you for expressing your concerns to us. We understand that our customers and the surrounding community are dealing with numerous and significant changes while development takes place in and around the area. We have been working diligently with the City to accommodate construction re-routes to best serve our customers. Unfortunately, notice of this construction closure was very short. Our sign shop, which takes care of signage for the entire region, has re-shuffled other deadlines to get to these signs created, printed and should we’re told should be up in the next couple of hours.
We certainly appreciate customers’ patience during this transitional time and we look forward to returning the C8 to its regular routing following construction.
