Cycling

We’re beyond pleased to share that Coast Mountain Bus Company, and Unifor Locals 111 and 2200 have reached a tentative agreement! We’re working towards providing regular schedules for all transit modes.

We’ve got some good news and some not-so-good news…

The not-so-good news: on Wednesday, November 27; Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29, escalating job action will result in the suspension of SeaBus and most bus service in Metro Vancouver

The good news: the forecast is calling for sunny skies for the latter part of the week, which means that despite the cooler temps cycling is a brisk, yet possible option for getting around the city during the transit strike.

Here are some important tips, tricks and reminders to ensure help your cycling commute:

Bike Parkade

Bike Parkades & Valets

If biking is an option for you, consider using your personal bike or a bikeshare to get to-and-from your destinations or connect to our continuing services.

Register for access on your Compass Card

To help make cycling a more accessible option for our customers, from Wednesday, November 27 to Friday, November 29, all of TransLink’s Bike Parkades will be FREE (from 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.)! Access to Bike Parkades is administered through your Compass Card, so make sure you’ve registered your Compass Card at compasscard.ca before you ride. We will have staff onsite to help facilitate access and monitor the locations.

Not yet registered? No worries, our helpful staff can register Compass Card holders on the spot and answer any questions you may have.

Bike Parkades are for day-use only. Long-term storage of bikes is not allowed.

There are many people who rely on Bike Parkades for the storage of their bikes. If you are not using the Bike Parkade regularly, please remove your bike to make space for others. Bikes that have been left in a Parkade for more than four days will be considered abandoned and removed.

Park your bike, not your belongings.

All personal items – including food delivery bags and perishable items – will be removed without warning.

Don’t let others into the Bike Parkade.

In order to ensure that only those who have registered for Bike Parkades are allowed into the facility, please make sure the door closes behind you when entering and exiting the Parkade and don’t let others in.

Secure your bike properly with a sturdy lock.

Even if you park your bike inside a Bike Parkade, we still recommend using a proper lock – a U-lock, not a cable lock – and securing both the wheels and frame of your bike to the rack, if possible. You may want to consider using multiple locks to do this.

Gas-powered mobility devices cannot be stored inside Bike Parkades.

Flammable substances (gasoline and other fuels) are not allowed inside Bike Parkades at any time.

If you see something, say something!

If you notice any suspicious activity in or around the Bike Parkade or happen to have your bike vandalized or stolen, make sure to file a report with Transit Police: text 87-77-77 or call 604-515-8300. If you are in an emergency situation, always call 911.
