Annual fare change begins July 1
TransLink is reminding customers that on July 1, fares will see increases ranging from 5 cents for a single-use ticket to $4.05 for a three-zone monthly pass. All Metro Vancouver transit fares will increase by 2.3% to allow TransLink to keep up with inflation and maintain the current transit system as we work toward achieving long-term financial sustainability.
- Single-use adult and concession fare increase will range from $0.05 to $0.20.
- DayPass fare increase will range from $0.20 to $0.25.
- Fares for 1, 2 and 3 Zone monthly pass fare increase will range from $2.25 to $4.05.
As always, customers can save more by using Compass Card Stored Value. Even with these increases, Metro Vancouver continues to have the lowest average multi-mode adult cash fares of all major Canadian cities.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TransLink cancelled the 2020 annual fare change. The 2021 fare change is less than originally planned thanks to support from the BC Safe Restart Agreement. We recognize transit is an essential service for thousands of people in our region and should remain affordable as the local economy recovers.
I am very disappointed to hear that Translink is going to be increasing their fares for all types.
We are just recovering from the two year pandemic, many of us were laid off or lost hours of work and are just coming back to regular work hours.
Bearing in mind the rising cost of gas so more people are taking transit rather than driving, and the increase in rents, food prices, etc. it would have been appreciated if Translink had spared us this increase till early next year. especially as I see a translink surcharge on all my bills, from Hydro to Telus etc.
And this morning i took the train from Metrotown to Burrard station for work, and it was jam packed when it arrived at Metrotown so i could barely get in.
Perhaps at least run more trains during the morning rush hour since commute seems to be coming back to pre-pandemic times.
I hope you will consider the above and delay the rate increase.
thank you.
I agree fully Nila. The lack of regard for the average person who can barely afford groceries or rent and they increase the fares is completely ludicrous! The service does not increase so why is the fare. I would like to see a legitimate plan for all of these increases that are for the public but likely going straight to someone’s pocket. Translink you do not provide good enough service to charge this much!
