Don’t miss this TransLink exhibit at the PNE Fair
There’s so much to see and do at the PNE Fair (Aug. 20 to Sept. 5, closed Mondays except Labour Day) — where to begin?
Start with riding transit there! The 16 PNE special bus operates every 15 minutes between the Expo Line’s 29th Avenue Station, the Millennium Line’s Renfrew Station, and the Pacific Coliseum.
Looking for ways to save at the PNE Fair? We have 5 ways to save.
Next, visit TransLink’s Ride and Shine activation zone, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, steps from the Red Gate at the corner of Hastings and Renfrew Street. You can’t miss us as you walk in.
Here’s what you can expect:
Discover the breadth of careers in transit
We’re more than just transit operations at TransLink, Coast Mountain Bus Company and British Columbia Rapid Transit Company. We have roles in information technology, human resources, project management, transportation planning, marketing, social media, engineering, finance, mechanical work, and so much more!
There is a role for everyone in transit. Ask our recruiters questions about the current openings and how you can apply at translink.ca/careers.
Tour a double-decker bus
The PNE Fair is your chance to board a double-decker outside of its natural habitat. The double-decker buses are specialized buses that only operate on longer haul, suburban bus routes — such as the 301, 351, 555, and 620 — where people typically board the bus and ride to the end of the line. That means the double-decker buses don’t operate within the urban areas of Metro Vancouver where people get on and off the bus throughout the route.
Experience firsthand why the double-decker bus is a fan favourite with its panoramic views from the upper deck. We are one of only a handful of transit systems in Canada and the United States that operate double-decker buses.
Ask questions on board the “Ride and Shine” bus
Discover how you can ride transit and enjoy Car-Free Days of Summer, plus how you can unlock special offers and discounts to your favourite summer spots — including the PNE Fair. On Fair Fridays (Aug. 26 and Sept. 2), the first 5,000 people to show their Compass Card or proof of transit fare receive 2-for-1 admission to the PNE Fair, so get there early!
Once you’re there ask us your questions, like what does it mean when we say TransLink is Metro Vancouver’s regional transportation authority? Let us explain how we are the planners of the regional transportation system or ask us about the regional transportation strategy, Transport 2050 and learn what’s envisioned for transit and transportation improvements in Metro Vancouver over the next decade as outlined in our recently approved Transport 2050: 10-Year Priorities plan.
Transit through Metro Vancouver’s transit history
Board the historical, museum bus — a 1957 General Motors TDH-4512 bus, or commonly referred to as the “old look” bus. Why is it called that? You’ll want to stop by and ask one of the Transit Museum Society volunteers why!
Check out transit artifacts, memorabilia, and a timeline of transit in Metro Vancouver from 1890 to now.
Take the Car-Free Pledge and enter for a chance to win!
We’re in the midst of a climate emergency. By taking transit walking, or biking instead of driving, you’re taking one of the biggest steps to shrinking your carbon footprint. Take the car-free pledge and enter for a chance to win tickets to the Summer Night Concerts each evening.
Or just hang out!
Take a break and have a seat in the shade at our tables and chairs. Play Connect Four and bean bag toss. Take photos at our Transit Garden wall. And if you’re visiting us on Thursdays through Sundays, an artist draws your caricature on your favourite mode of transit.
I wish that you folks had more places or able to send compass card alternatives. I was wanting to purchase a compass key chain to simplify my use. Found that only way to purchase one is to travel all the way to downtown. I live in Maple Ridge. Quite the commute to purchase.
