WATCH: Hundreds sing ‘Someone Like You’ by Adele on the SeaBus
This SeaBus ride was a little different as people took a break from the views and their phones, choosing to connect with each other instead.
Hundreds sang along in a made-for-Internet moment, passionately belting out Someone Like You by Adele in unison as the SeaBus sailed across the Burrard Inlet on Saturday, Aug. 20.
The surprise singalong, which lasted for two hours between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., is part of Art Moves, our music and performance residency series bringing vibrancy to the transit system.
Vancouver vocal coach Sing with Jill led the crowd, on piano, in singing five-to-six songs, as the SeaBus sailed back-and-forth between Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver and Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver.
Each trip started with Happy by Pharrell Williams and a tepid crowd, but all trips ended with smiles and applause. One customer declared it to be the best SeaBus ride, ever.
For Jill, it was an unbelievable and awesome experience that went beyond her wildest expectations.
“Every single ride was different, but everybody participated and Someone Like You was a big hit,” says Jill. “There was some reoccurring people so that was really fun to see people run back around the turnstile and come back and hang out.”

The most requested song, by far, was Someone Like You. Other songs included Dreams by Fleetwood Mac, Riptide by Vance Joy, Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man, Levitating by Dua Lipa, Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, and Summer of ’69 by Bryan Adams.
“I was really nervous because I thought I might get some hecklers,” joked Jill, “but everybody wanted to sing and we don’t have much opportunity to do that.
“It was just lovely.”

OMG I missed this! More of these please! (but also put a sign beside the artist that it’s an official event, for those who might not know)
Maybe make these every weekend, when less people are feeling stressed about getting to/from work… Or maybe during the week is better because it helps relieve stress for some?? Take a poll from transit/seabus users!! All I know is that I’d go out of way to come sing along with y’all!!
