Take transit to the first-ever West End Car Free Day festival
Join us as Denman Street turns into a pedestrian paradise for the last Car Free Day festival of the summer! Just like the others, expect food trucks, performances, and fun activities for everyone – all easily accessible by transit.
Car Free Day West End, presented by TransLink, takes over Denman Street between Davie St. & Robson St. on Sunday, September 25 from noon to 7 p.m.
Participate in the growing car-free culture by taking transit to the festival. Enjoy the final days before the autumn rain arrives, and don’t forget to plan your visit with Ride and Shine!
The TransLink team will be at the event with our Ride & Shine bus. Learn and practice using the bike rack on the bus, and board the historical, museum bus to check out transit artifacts, memorabilia, and a timeline of transit in Metro Vancouver from 1890 to now.
Did you know?! The museum bus is a 1957 General Motors TDH-4512 bus, commonly referred to as the “old look” bus. Why is it called that? You’ll want to stop by and ask one of the Transit Museum Society volunteers why!
You can reduce your carbon footprint largely by simply taking transit. For instance, every time you take the SkyTrain, you prevent 2.3 kg of CO2 emissions, or about five bathtubs full of CO2, from going into our atmosphere.
When you choose sustainable transportation (like taking transit, walking, and cycling) over driving a gasoline car, you are helping reduce our region’s transportation emissions and contribute to creating a sustainable future.
So, take a car-free pledge this summer knowing that your action makes a difference in the fight against climate change.

This event ostensibly occurred one month ago. Why post this new article on 20 September? ?
Ah, I see the body copy has since been updated. As originally written it announced a date sometime in August.
Anyhow, the title proclaims this to be the “first-ever West End Car Free Day festival”, which seems odd since Denman St. has seen several “car-free” days over the past few years. (For example, the WE BIA has a photograph of one at https://westendbia.com/events/car-free-day/ ; another site announces one in June 2019: https://www.todocanada.ca/city/vancouver/event/westend-car-free/; etc.) In fact, I recall seeing both TransLink and Transit Museum Society buses on display on at least one occasion recently.
What’s “first-ever” about this one?
It would have been really helpful if you’d posted link to a map explaining the bus route changes. Or if it’s there somewhere, you could have made it more visible.
