Here’s what you missed during I Love Transit Week, Feb. 13–17!
TransLink’s I Love Transit Week is an annual event that celebrates all things public transit in Metro Vancouver. This year’s event took place from February 13 – 17 and featured a variety of activities and events designed to encourage people to share their love of transit.
One of the highlights of the week was our I ♥ Transit Trivia Pub Night at Moody Ales & Co. in Port Moody, just a short walk away from the SkyTrain’s Moody Centre Station.
Even though it was a rainy Feb. 16 evening, the event drew 24 people, ranging from transit operators and die-hard transit fans like the ELMTOTs to total newbies. Our highest score was 26 out of 30. Several participants came from well outside of Port Moody for the event, with Richmond being the furthest travelled.
The trivia night, which was held in support of the BC Ale Trail Tasting Passport program, was a remarkable success with participants asking when the next trivia night would be! ?
Another popular event was our pop-up poetry reading at Waterfront Station on Valentine’s Day!
Presented by TransLink’s Art and Culture Program, Moving Lines: An I Love Transit Week Music and Poetry Event featured performances from poets, accompanied by a cellist and violinist, sharing their words with those passing through the bustling station, weaving together vivid images of love and transit.
Passersby were quick to express their appreciation for the performance. Many stopped to listen and even joined in with spontaneous applause and their own transit rhymes created at the interactive poetry booth.
In addition to these fun activities, I Love Transit Week also included stories celebrating two of our hugest transit fans: YouTuber Reece Martin and Kai Ang Bowes, a Simon Fraser University student and LEGO builder.
Overall, TransLink’s I Love Transit Week was a great opportunity for transit enthusiasts to come together and celebrate the important role that public transit plays in our lives. Whether you’re a regular rider or just a fan of the system, there was something for everyone to enjoy during this fun and informative week-long event.
