We want to hear from you on proposed 23 Main St Station/English Bay improvements
We’re proposing changes to the 23 Main Street Station/English Bay route to address overcrowding and pass-ups, where the bus is full so you have to wait for the next one.
Located in Vancouver’s West End, the 23 serves a densely-populated corridor, multiple SkyTrain stations, and popular destinations — particularly during summer months.
Road constraints, notably along Keefer Street, Beach Avenue, and Bidwell Street, only allow for community shuttles that have a maximum capacity of 24 passengers.
That’s why we are proposing a re-route of the 23, so we can upgrade service from community shuttles to larger 40-foot buses — more than doubling the customer capacity on this route. The proposed new route:
- Shifts westbound service from Beach Avenue to Pacific Street between Howe Street and Jervis Street – for two-way service along Pacific Street.
- Shifts westbound service from Keefer Street to Expo Boulevard between Quebec Street and Pat Quinn Way.
- Extends the route along Denman Street and Robson Street to serve Burrard Station.
We want to hear from you on these proposed improvements to the route. Learn more and take the survey at translink.ca/route23 until Dec. 11.
Following community engagement, in partnership with the City of Vancouver, TransLink plans to implement changes to the 23 in summer 2024.
I recall that was the old bus route before they switched to shuttles.
Omg, draw a map. Stop describing streets.
☝️ This! Please show a map of the proposed changes.
Guys there is literally a map if you go to the project page linked in this article.
Agree with the need for a map! I should not have to click on the survey link to see a map. And that map is only the proposed new route. Why not overlay the new and the old routes together on one map so we can be more fully informed prior to deciding whether we want to take the survey?
Your wish is granted in the maps linked from the article.
There are many people living on Beach Avenue below the bridges whose bus service has already been cut by removing the eastbound service. Now you are proposing to cut it altogether! I suggest keeping the Beach service and additionally sending the EB bus down Howe Street to the roundabout to pick up and drop off. And double the number of buses.
I like the beach ave. Denman to Burrard station
Bring back a bus all along Robson St please.
I agree. It is a very steep hill from Beach to Pacific for seniors and those with mobility issues.
Absolutely agree!
Make the eastbound services end at 2nd Avenue or Olympic Village. The current terminal station is far from skytrain and the walk to Creekside Community centre is far for seniors.
The extension of the Canada line from YT to Denman st would be a great plus since tourist come from YVR to downtown and since EBay is so popular even private partnership for stations like the do in Japan and Taiwan would be a bonus and reduce traffic Thank Yoou
before you make changes all over and cry to the Federal Government for more money try fixing the run times on the routes you have already .
You can not even stay on time anymore — You can not even service many routes now that are running …. For example the North Bound #3 road (403 ) is over loaded daily and the driver passes by stops that have people waiting . Week days this route is so over used it can not pick up passengers waiting along the route . Forcing people to wait long times in the cool Fall air / rain and now Winter cooler temperatures .
Do something about the routes you have that are used to the max with more runs or bigger buses that you have sitting in depots that are not being used OMG BC Transit has become the worst service ever in many years ——– so sick and tired of the Mayors crying to the Federal Government for more money and threating to cut services if they do not get more money ————- How about cutting salaries of the high end management and use that money on transit instead of high end managers
Stop doing surveys and reports. Just make the executive decision and do it quicker. That’s why we pay and / or elect you.
I agree with the proposed changes. Whatever it takes to upgrade to larger buses!
I urge those of you with comments (and complaints) to read more on the proposal at https://www.translink.ca/translink/plans-and-projects/strategies-plans-and-guidelines/managing-the-transit-network#23-main-st-station-english-bay-proposed-service-improvements and then fill out the survey at https://translinklistens.ca/embeds/projects/40546/survey-tools/43176. In my experience, nobody from TransLink replies or pays attention to comments posted on these blog articles (a dereliction of duty really), so you might be shouting into the void by remarking here.
The project proposal is easy to read and understand, and the survey is simple and short. I filled it out. (My main comments: it’s a shame to lose the cozier and more scenic service, but makes sense from a capacity perspective; how will scheduling relate to the #5, which already covers half of the new proposed route?)
Like the bus isn’t already crowded enough that you’d add people for Burrad station in the equation. One you have this tiny midget bus that can only take 22 people. Be better translink, it’s usually full
Need a proposed map indicating terminus , stops and Time table. Will use your proposed plan and try to have site visit to assess before offering suggestions for passengers (especially easy for tourists to follow) from all directions. Appreciated.
