Take transit to these 10 family-friendly activities during spring break

Spring break kicks off next week for many students throughout Metro Vancouver, and with two weeks of days to fill, we’ve got a few suggestions for you.
Remember kids 12 and under ride free, so whatever you’re doing, choose transit to get there.
1. BC Sports Hall of Fame at BC Place

The BC Sports Hall of Fame at BC Place is steps away from Stadium–Chinatown Station and offers hands-on experiences for little athletes, and beyond.
Current exhibits include In Her Footsteps, which celebrates B.C. women in sport, the Rick Hansen Gallery, the participation zone, the Terry Fox Gallery, and the Best of B.C. exhibit, which celebrates B.C.’s best sport moments.
2. H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

If you’ve got a little astronaut, or consider yourself one, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre is an ultimate day trip. Visit a live science show, catch a short documentary or try some of the hands-on exhibits. Right next to the centre is the Gordon Southam Observatory where you can stargaze during the evening as a great way to end to the day.
3. Flyover Canada

Flyover Canada is Vancouver’s own little amusement park ride experience, available year-round. With flight motion seats, a wraparound screen, and interactive scents and wind, you’ll feel like you’re actually soaring over the Rockies, or following alongside the Rocky Mountaineer.
4. Rolla Skate Club

The Rolla Skate Club is located on the grounds of the PNE and offers everything. From skate nights and skating lessons to even an instructor certification program, if you’ve ever been interested in teaching others how to roller skate.
Opt for a drop-in skating session to try it out, buy a shareable family pack, or sign up for kids and youth programs.
Remember to Pack a helmet for anyone under 13.
5. Grouse Mountain

There are a few activities offered at Grouse Mountain suitable for kids and one Mountain Admission pass gets you access to all of them. Enjoy an educational, nature video at the Theatre in the Sky, try their skating pond, visit the Kids Tree Canopy Adventure, or feel the rush of the cold mountain air at their sliding zone.
Be sure to check their current conditions before you go, and don’t forget to pack your Compass Card to show it and get $10 off an adult admission.
6. Vancouver Public Library

We’ve chosen the Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library, not only for its awesome architecture, but it’s the largest branch of the VPL and possibly Metro Vancouver! It’s open to anyone, not just residents of Vancouver.
Take the time to sign up for a library card and take-home books the same day, as well as gain access to online materials such as magazines, e-books and audiobooks. You can even rent video games from the library! Spend the day out and then snuggle up with a good book or game.
Alternatively, you can also use their board games during your visit, it’s a great chance to try some before you commit to buying.
7. Monster Jam Vancouver
📅 Dates: March 21–23

Monster Jam returns to Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum from March 21 to 23, bringing fan favourite 12,000-pound trucks such as Grave Digger, El Toro Loco and Sparkle Smash.
The event features more than just monster trucks! It includes interviews with drivers, opening ceremonies, giveaways and getting a behind the scenes look into the Pit Crew.
8. Rec Room at Brentwood Town Centre

The Rec Room at Brentwood Town Centre offers a TON to do, for spring breakers of all ages. With over 90 games and a shiny Trophy Room, you’re bound to walk away with something to take home, if not only the memories of crushing opponents.
Many of the games are easy to play, but difficult to master, so it’s suitable for all ages. Most dispense tickets which can later be redeemed in the Trophy Room for a treat or small toy. Their Trophy Room has prizes for all ticket amounts, meaning kids won’t be disappointed.
One of the great things about the Rec Room is how their credits don’t expire, so you can visit more than once on a single wristband purchase.
Minors are only allowed in with an adult (aged 19 and older) until 10 p.m. and then it’s adults only, so plan your visit accordingly.
9. Canadian Museum of Flight
📍 Location: 5333 216 St Hangar #3, Langley, BC
🚌 Bus Routes: 503 Fraser Hwy/Aldergrove/Surrey Central Station, 560 Murrayville/Langley Centre
The Canadian Museum of Flight has over 25 aircrafts for you to view, both static and flying. Visit planes from World War I all the way up to present day, flying aircrafts. Guests are encouraged to explore and can actually touch the aircrafts on display, a feature usually not in most museums. Pack a lunch and enjoy the spring weather, as they’ve got a large, fenced picnic area. It’s at the Langley airport, so you might see operating planes take off and land too.
10. Ice Skating at the Shipyards
📍 Location: 125 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver, BC
🚢 SeaBus: Lonsdale Quay
🚌 Bus Routes: R2 Marine Drive to Phibbs Exchange/Marine Drive to Park Royal
The season for ice skating is still on, thanks to the Shipyards Skate Plaza, which stays open through the end of March. It’s a fairly large rink with free helmet rentals, the only thing you’ll pay for is a skate rental, if needed. This activity also puts you at the centre of the Shipyards, with lots to do when you’ve finished skated. Grab a bite, shop around or sit on the pier to relax those legs.
