Ride a shared e-scooter to Coquitlam Central Station and connect with transit

There’s a new way to connect with buses, the SkyTrain, and West Coast Express at Coquitlam Central Station — by riding a shared e-bike or e-scooter!

There are now designated parking areas, also known as mobility hubs, for shared micromobility devices like e-bikes and e-scooters – outside the fare gates at both the SkyTrain and West Coast Express stations at Coquitlam Central.

The new parking areas are part of the Coquitlam Central Mobility Hub Pilot, delivered in partnership with the City of Coquitlam.

These areas are marked just like similar designated parking areas for e-scooters throughout the City of Coquitlam. Riders will only be able to end trips inside the parking area.

Please note that shared e-bikes and e-scooters should always be docked at stations or in designated parking areas and not taken on board SkyTrain services.

We want to bring more convenience and mobility options to our transit riders, especially for connecting with transit. That’s why we’re trying new things to see what works best.

Using shared micromobility services such as e-scooters and e-bikes gives you more options for getting around. It means more access to places you may not be able to get to using transit alone, with less of an impact on the environment than driving

This initiative will help us gather valuable data we can use in the future. The findings from the pilot will help assess whether similar approaches could be applied at other transit hubs in Metro Vancouver and determine the need for further mobility hubs.

Another great part of piloting these mobility hubs is the potential to reduce congestion at busy transit stations by reducing the number of drivers parking their vehicles there.

Essentially, we want to see how we can make transit even more accessible, helping customers reach the final stages of their journey seamlessly, with options and ease.

Why mobility hubs?

By exploring the benefits of mobility hubs, we are supporting the goal of creating convenient choices for everyone – as laid out in Transport 2050, including:

  • Transforming transit stops and stations into multimodal mobility hubs that enable seamless transfers between different transportation options.
  • Providing parking and charging infrastructure for shared vehicles at transit stops and stations.
  • Improving access to shared micromobility by enabling convenient, safe, accessible, and interoperable services that are well distributed throughout the urban part of the region.

Coquitlam Central Station already has different modes of transportation including:

  • Transit.
  • A Park and Ride for private vehicles.
  • A Modo carshare parking stall.
  • Bike lockers and stalls for personal bicycle usage.

This project aims to increase and diversify the transportation options around Coquitlam Central Station, helping it become a more connected transportation hub.

By supporting the expansion and adoption of shared micromobility services, we can enable more people to move around the region without a personal vehicle, thus helping to reduce congestion, improve safety, and achieve our climate action objectives.

This exciting pilot will run until December 2025, and we’ll be able to look at the data collected to see how it went.

Is this something you’d like to see in your city? Let us know what you think, will you be trying out a shared e-scooter or e-bike during your commute?
