Upgrades complete for section of BC Parkway along Stewardson Way

We’ve completed upgrades to a 737-metre stretch of the BC Parkway in New Westminster! The portion along Stewardson Way, between River Drive and 14th Street, received significant upgrades to improve safety and accessibility for road users.

What these upgrades mean for you

The next time you’re riding, rolling, or walking through the BC Parkway in New Westminster, you can go in confidence knowing that the route is safer than ever before. Upgrades include:

A widened pathway with separate lanes for cyclists and pedestrians, making it comfortable and convenient for all modes of active transportation.

Improved lighting and street-level visibility for public safety.

Greater separation between BC Parkway and heavy vehicle traffic on Stewardson Way for improved comfort.

Replacement of the traffic signal at the 5th Avenue intersection and repaving and upgrading the intersections of Stewardson Way and River Drive, Stewardson Way and 5th Avenue, and Stewardson Way and 14th Street.

The BC Parkway Stewardson Way Upgrades project was made possible in collaboration with the City of New Westminster, which identified Stewardson Way as an area in need of upgrades and contributed funding for the construction. As well, the Southern Railway of British Columbia who made a key section of land available for active transportation.
