How to get to Spanish Banks Beach

Spanish Banks Beach is a stretch of sandy beach in Vancouver’s West Point Grey neighbourhood.

It’s perhaps best known for its views of the North Shore mountains, downtown Vancouver, and English Bay. Its location also means it’s one of the less busy beaches in Vancouver.

Here’s how to get to Spanish Banks Beach!

By transit

During weekends and holidays, between May and September, ride the 42 Spanish Banks bus from Broadway and Alma Street. Service is every 15 minutes, between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. The 42 also stops at Locarno Beach Park and Jericho Beach Park.

To reach Broadway and Alma Street, ride the 99 B-Line from Commercial–Broadway Station (Expo and Millennium Lines), or ride the 7 Nanaimo Station/Dunbar Loop, 9 Broadway or 14 Hastings/UBC buses.

For weekday visits and the rest of the year, it’s about a 15-minute walk from the 4 Powell/UBC and 84 UBC/VCC–Clark Station busesat W 4th Avenue and Blanca Street.

By SkyTrain, you can connect to the 4 bus at Waterfront Station (Expo Line and SeaBus), and the 84 bus at Olympic Village Station (Canada Line).

Remember! Kids under 12 ride transit for free. It’s just a one-zone fare after 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends/holidays. You can tap to pay an adult cash fare using a contactless credit or debit card. Finally, plan your trip using our Trip Planner.

By bike share

During the summer months (between late April and the end of September), Mobi by Rogers and TransLink team up to bring a Mobi bike share station to Spanish Banks.

The temporary station is available 24/7 and works just like the permanent ones elsewhere.

So, pick up a Mobi bike from a station near you or at a SkyTrain station, and ride to Spanish Banks Beach! Afterwards, pick up a bike again from the Mobi station and ride it back.

By bike

Spanish Banks Beach is located right along the Seawall, which is a greenway for all ages, all abilities. It’s also accessible via nearby local street bikeways and painted bike lanes.

Plan your route using:

  • Metro Vancouver Cycling Maps: These cycling maps include key connections to transit hubs, locations of bike lockers and parkades, and indicate areas with steeper hills. They also show the comfort levels of each route based on how separated it is from traffic.
  • Vancouver Bike Route Planner: a dedicated trip planner for cycling in Metro Vancouver with the ability find routes that are “safer,” have the least hills, and more.

Don’t forget! Bikes can ride transit too (some restrictions apply). Bring your bike on transit, then ride the rest of way to Spanish Banks Beach.

By car

There’s limited paid parking at Spanish Banks Beach, so we recommend choosing transit or cycling to avoid disappointment. Lots can get full quickly during the busy summer months.

For beachgoers coming from outside Vancouver and its neighbouring cities, consider driving to one of our Park and Ride lots and connecting to transit. At our lots, you can park your car all day for between $2-$3.
