The new east stationhouse at Main Street-Science World opens today and the west stationhouse will close for construction.
This means customers that plan to take the Train2Main from Main Street-Science World Station will now have to access the station from the east stationhouse. The west stationhouse will remain closed until construction at the station is complete in early 2015.
The new east stationhouse will include new stairs, an up-escalator and a new elevator.
This is an exciting time as we make much-needed improvements at one of the busiest stations to improve your experience onboard the SkyTrain system. To learn more, visit www.translink.ca/ontrack.

Thanks for sharing those photos chri!
Is there any word yet as to when the upgrades on Metrotown Station begin? Also, are more upgrades at New Westminster Station expected to better integrate the platform-level of the station in with the surrounding mallscape? It seems as though dates keep getting pushed further and further on Translink projects, be it with the fare gates, with Main Street Station’s renos, etc. Things are never quite as PR likes to boast.
On a more positive note, the new east station house does look cool, very well done! It’s nice to see that it partially picks up on the original Expo 86 design in some of its features. I do hope that better lighting is put under the portion of guideway over Main Street itself. That section where people wait for the Number 3 bus in front of Starbucks is so dark and sketchy!
Hi @Jay. Thanks for your comments on the Main Street upgrades. We’re really proud of the east stationhouse and we’re happy to hear you’re enjoying it as well!
As I’m sure you can appreciate, the station improvements are large construction projects and keeping the stations operational requires complex planning. I can assure you that there’s a lot of work being done behind the scenes on Metrotown and we’ll share more information about construction timelines soon. You’re right, the neighbourhood around New Westminster Station continues to grow and develop which is why we need to update the station. The station design will be improved to better meet the needs of the customers that use the station.
