Hello! I’ve come back as promised, bearing photos of the Oakridge Station open house last weekend.

If you haven’t seen it before, Oakridge is the first underground station to be part of an open house. Thanks to everyone who sent in their links — and here’s the big list of albums for you to run through:

It looks like there was a great turnout! And the station looks shiny and new :)

    Hi Jennifer,

Hope you enjoyed your Chicago deep dish pizza! Can you get answers to some of my questions about the Canada Line?

    (1) I thought the color scheme for the Canada Line was suppposed to be red. Light blue was used instead. Why the color change?

    (2) The signage in Oakridge Station points to “Way Out”, a term used in Britain. Why wasn’t “Exit” used to match the signage on the other 2 SkyTrain Lines? No one speaks that way in North America.

I always thought it perfectly logical for the sign pointing the way out to say ‘way out’. :) There’s no reason to use Latinate phrases all the time.

Nobody’s confirmed the date of the next open house yet, but tentatively I’ve been told that Vancouver City Centre Station will be the next one. More when I know about it!

Given that the Granville Showcase is happening on July 25, I would be very surprised if the City Centre open house was on any other date.

Yep, Sungsu’s right, July 25 is the day — they’re suggesting 2pm-7pm right now. I’ll have a post up about a week ahead of time so we’ll have all the details available.

Gary: I sent your questions to Canada Line, and here’s the answers provided by my contact there–

The question about the train colour scheme is an interesting one. As far as I know, it was never intended to be red. The blue, green and white colour scheme is intended to reflect the westcoast environment of mountains, sea and (sometimes) blue sky.

As for the “exit” signage…..we thought “Way Out” was more descriptive and would be easily understandable by and international ridership.

    Jennifer,

When you rode the Canada Line on Friday, you must have noticed the map in the train with the line shown in RED. That map was used by TransLink since the line was announced a few years ago. People are going to get confused with a red line on the train map and light blue on other maps. You should let the Canada Line people know about this :)

You know, there weren’t any Canada Line maps in the trains we rode! So perhaps they are changing the colour to be consistent.
