Ahoy mateys! Construction begins for Metro Vancouver’s newest SeaBus

SeaBus Progress

New SeaBus

Last week we shared this little gem with you on Facebook and Instagram and asked you to guess what it was. Your answers were amazing!

social media commentsFor those of you that guessed a new SeaBus – you were correct!

Damen Shipyards Group, builder of our Burrard Otter II, recently started construction on a third vessel for TransLink’s SeaBus fleet. Welcoming aboard a third vessel will allow us to continue to deliver expanded SeaBus service as outlined in the Mayors’ 10-Year Vision. Once in service, SeaBus frequency will increase to every 10 minutes during peak hours. Our new SeaBus is expected to be delivered by the end of 2018 and begin service on the Burrard Inlet by early 2019.

Progress continues in The Netherlands with our friends at Damen’s Gorinchem shipyard sending this updated shot showing the underside of the passenger cabin floor.

Did you know – The SeaBus hulls are being built upside down so the floor and supporting structure is the first part of the construction?

It may not look like much now, but stay tuned as we share more progress on the exciting new addition to our fleet!
