As 2017 comes to a close, The Buzzer blog’s taking a look at some of TransLink’s milestones from the year that was!

It was a momentous year as we began delivering the 10-Year Vision for Metro Vancouver Transportation, our region’s largest transportation expansion in almost a decade. There’s been a 17 per cent increase in service hours for SkyTrain, 5 per cent for both bus and HandyDART, and SeaBus now has 15-minute service until 9 p.m., every day.

Plus our transit system surpassed 400 million boardings! This is the highest number ever experienced on our system in a single year and another milestone in a record-breaking period of ridership growth:

• 6.3% – Growth in ridership region-wide between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30, 2017.
• 13% – Increase in ridership along the Evergreen Extension since early 2017.
• >25% – Growth in weekday transit ridership in the Tri-Cities, comparing September and October 2017 to same months in 2016.
• >50% – Growth in weekend transit ridership in the Tri-Cities since Evergreen launch, comparing September and October 2017 to same months in 2016.

The Compass system marked a major milestone as well. In August, it recorded the billionth tap since the system was first switched on for testing in 2013. And the SeaBus celebrated its 40th anniversary!
