Compass Mini-Train – Where will it take you?
Compass Mini-Train – Where will it take you?
UPDATE: The Compass Mini-Trains have proven to be a hot Christmas commodity! Due to overwhelming customer demand, we’re now sold out.
Tapping into transit just got more interesting as the Compass Mini-Train joins the fleet of Compass Cards and products for Metro Vancouver transit.
The Compass Mini-Train attaches to a keyring and works like the Compass Card. But it’s unique in that it resembles a small, model SkyTrain car with headlights that light up when tapped.
This is the perfect holiday stocking stuffer for transit enthusiasts. Visit the TransLink Customer Service Centre inside Waterfront Station (Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) to pick up a Compass Mini-Train while supplies last.
During its initial release, 3,000 adult (blue) and 2,000 concession (orange) Mini-Trains will be available starting on December 14. Sales will be limited to four per person. Just like any other Compass product, there is a $6 refundable deposit when picking up your Mini-Train.
“The Compass Mini-Train is a new and exciting addition to the Compass product lineup,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “Compass Wristbands and Minis have been very successful and I’m sure customers will appreciate the fun and quirky design of the new Compass Mini-Train.”
Customers can use their Compass Mini-Train to tap in and out when traveling on transit. Load Stored Value and fare products online, at a Compass Vending Machine, by phone, or in person.
Do you have a favourite Compass wearable product?
Why is it only available at waterfront station?
Can I order them online?!?
God i love the mini train.
It’s the first MKIII model they release right?
I literally love these but I can’t buy cause it’s hard for me to come get from waterfront
is Jawn Jang single? (asking for a friend?)
When will we get a Compass app that we can tap from our phones?
I wish we can order online. Specially us far from waterfront station.
I live in Abbotsford. Why waterfront only? How about selling online too.
Why only available at waterfront station? Can I order this compass mini train online?
Just add Apple Wallet Compass Cards already. And Transfers to SEKAITrain/Seabus with bus cash fare w/ Compass tickets. And customized photo compasses. And bathrooms.
I went to the Customer Service Centre to try to get one this morning for my son, He love trains especially the skytrain which he loves watching go by our home and wants it for when we take transit together. I was there at 10 am as I couldn’t get there any earlier from work and no luck, was told that I couldn’t get one because they did a head count and there weren’t going to be enough. Is there any way to get one after this initial run? It seems ridiculous to do these limited runs.
On a side note, one of the security guards there told me they only an hour in started limiting sales to 1 unit per person after several people bought large amounts and they realized it wasn’t going to be for personal use and instead for online resale.
Thanks David for the update.
TransLink – you should know that these specialty items are popular. We saw it with the Evergreen and Canada 150 cards. Why would you think a limit of 4 would be a good idea? And to release them all in one random Wednesday, when many of us can’t get there. Sigh.
Should enforce a limit. I was there 11am and all adult ones were sold out. All 3000 of them?!?!??!!!! That’s crazy. I couldn’t get there earlier because I had an exam at 8am. How is this fair?? Watch the resellers make bank. I am so sad and disappointed.
It would be nice for people that actually use transit to buy one or in David’s case, get one for his son. I just saw someone selling them on Facebook Marketplace for $50 EACH!! How ridiculous!!
What a joke! Just like the compass wrist bands! Huge demand and not enough to go around. Typical Translink thought process.
Make an app like they have in Calgary, would be much more useful than this or the wristband.
Why do people have to jump through hoops to get these…? Why do you design a release process to benefit resellers? Just what is the rationale behind this whole project?
Probably because they fired all their decent planners due to their idiotic vaxx mandate that did literally nothing to stop the spread of the ‘unspecified virus of unknown origin’ lol
Is it widely available or is it only in that area?
Would’ve been nice if your customer service folks would’ve told us that the written number on the packaging was the security code to activate the keychain, or better yet, have the security code PRINTED on the keychain like a Compass Card. Now I have two duds because I threw out the packaging.
Hey there!
I’m sorry to hear that happened. The Customer Service staff was advised to tell all customers to keep the CVN on the bag, but it’s possible that it might have slipped being mentioned. That said, your Compass Mini-Trains are still a fully functioning way to pay your transit fare without it. You can load and reload your Mini-Train at a Compass Vending Machine without the CVN. Additionally, you can take your Mini-Train to the TransLink Customer Service Centre at Waterfront Station and they can help you figure out what the CVN is.
Of course they sold out in a day with a limit of 4!?!?! I’ve seen them on market place for $80-100. Tranlink is a bunch of idiots if they didn’t learn from the Canada 150 cards. They should have made more and limit to one.
Translink is ableist. Translink only made it available to those able enough to go downtown in person during work hours to get them. Now we have people selling them on Craigslist for $500 each. Only the privilege are blind to this.
Im really disappointed with translink (again) on this. Only 4000 with a limit of 4 wtf. I couldnt make it because i had work as the majority of people have at 9am on a wednesday….. Thanks for updating the post so no one wastes their time at least.
This is my ninja way
