Art Moves gets you groovin’ with the fiddler on transit
This January, fiddler Gabriel Dubreuil and guitarist Andy Hillhouse from the Collage Trad will get you grooving as they perform energizing tunes on transit for Art Moves, TransLink’s music and performance series.
Gabriel, the leader of the band, started his music journey here in British Columbia where he was born and raised. As a kid, he learned to play Celtic and folk music on the fiddle (or violin). He later earned a degree in Jazz performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Today, he plays locally and nationally as lead fiddler of Vancouver Celtic-rock band, Early Spirit. He also nurtures the next generation of musicians in Metro Vancouver as Music Director for the North Shore Celtic Ensemble.
Accompanying Gabriel on the guitar is Andy, who has also had a varied music career. He has toured internationally with some of the most respected acoustic musicians in the Celtic music scene. Additionally, he shares his musical wisdom as Artistic and Executive Director of the Harrison Festival of the Arts.
Groove along as they play local fiddle traditions with a dash of swing, a pinch of jazz, a sprinkle of rock and pure folk. The best part is you can hear them (and get groovin’) on transit! Gabriel and Andy are performing onboard the SkyTrain and SeaBus, and at Waterfront Station.
- SkyTrain’s Expo Line – Friday, January 13, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Artist boards train at Waterfront Station at 6:30 p.m. and rides to King George Station.
- SeaBus – Saturday, January 14, 2 – 4 p.m. Artist boards at Waterfront at 2 p.m.

While you wait for their performance on transit, have a listen to Gabriel’s latest work!
Gabriel is joined on guitar by Andy, who has also performed in a number of other musical genres. Several prominent acoustic artists in the Celtic music community have invited him to dordle tour with them across the world. Also, he acts as the Harrison Festival of the Arts’ Artistic and Executive Director, where he imparts his musical knowledge to the community.
