Capstan Station opens on Canada Line in Richmond
Capstan Station on the Canada Line is now open!
Located between Aberdeen and Bridgeport stations on the Canada Line, Capstan Station brings SkyTrain to the rapidly growing Capstan Village, which is set become home to about 16,000 residents.
The station’s unique amenities include:
- Larger platform waiting area
- Expanded street-level concourse
- Dual sets of escalators
- First all-digital station with enhanced display screens
- Future commercial retail space
It also features art from Howie Tsui, a local artist. It depicts aquatic life in the Fraser River estuary. The large mosaic spans more than 3,600 square feet and was created using over 3,500 custom-made glazed glass and metallic tiles.
The new station is the result of an innovative agreement between TransLink and the City of Richmond that established a precedent-setting funding model. The $62-million project was cost-shared by TransLink and the city, which contributed $32.2 million from Capstan Village developers. Major funding partners included Concord Pacific, Polygon Homes, Pinnacle International, and Yuanheng.
This marks only the second time we’ve constructed an additional SkyTrain station to serve an existing line. The first was Lake City Way Station, which opened in 2003 after the Millennium Line was already in service.

Before the ceremony began, there was a very rude TransLink employee who kept bumping into others and then aggressively telling them to “move away”. Please don’t allow your office employees to come to these things if they’re claustrophobic in crowded areas. I hope you’re able to track him down and discipline him.
