Take the Burrard Peninsula Area Transport Plan survey on new bus routes

We’re inviting you to take a survey on possible new, enhanced, and changed bus routes — including an express bus network — as part of public engagement for the Burrard Peninsula Area Transport Plan! It’s open until March 9.
Who’s it for: People who live, work or play in, or travel through Burnaby, New Westminster, Vancouver, the University of British Columbia, and the University Endowment Lands.
- These are the traditional and unceded territories of several Indigenous Nations including qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓ (Kwantlen) First Nation, kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation, and qiqéyt (Qayqayt) First Nation.
What’s happening: We’re asking for feedback on recommended actions to improve transportation and how best to prioritize them. There’s something for everyone — whether you ride transit or use active transportation.
- We want to hear from you on the different proposed transit network changes, which include new, enhanced, and changes to bus routes.
- We also want to hear from you on which of the gaps in the Major Bikeway Network (MBN) are most important and should be addressed in the near term. The MBN is set to be made up of traffic-protected and traffic-calmed bikeways connecting urban centres and major destinations across Metro Vancouver.
Details: There are several proposed transit network changes, but here are some highlights:
- New express bus routes with fewer stops along busy roads in advance of new RapidBus and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines that were identified in Transport 2050 and Access for Everyone.
- Most of the proposed new routes will use the same route as the existing 19, 20, 25, 49, 100, 123, 240, and 250A routes, but some may follow a modified routing.
- Enhanced bus service in Stanley Park with a new route operating along Stanley Park Drive.
- New bus service on 1st Avenue, 54th/57th Avenue, and Grandview Highway.
- Changing the routing of the 16 Arbutus/29th Avenue Station bus to provide service to Sen̓áḵw.
- Extending two bus routes to serve the River District.
- Integrating the local bus network following the opening of the Broadway Subway (extension of the Millennium Line to Arbutus), as well as the possible Burnaby Mountain Gondola and Millennium Line UBC Extension projects.

Why it matters: Area Transport Plans help us prioritize future investments in the transportation network for the next 15 years.
- Notably, an Area Transport Plan is one of the first steps in helping to identify new routes or changes to existing routes for implementation in future service changes, which happen four times a year.
- The recommendations in Phase 2 of the Burrard Peninsula Area Transport Plan are proposals and unfunded. They need to be included in a future 10-Year Investment Plan for implementation.
Zoom out: Area Transport Plans are an opportunity for TransLink to work more closely with local governments, Indigenous Nations, stakeholders, and the public to identify key transportation priorities relating to the local transportation network for the next 15 years.
- This includes transit service and infrastructure, while also addressing aspects of cycling, walking, and goods movement.
- Area Transport Plans are informed by and help to advance the goals and objectives outlined in Transport 2050, the region’s transportation strategy, and the Access for Everyone plan (10-Year Priorities).
- Together these plans establish the region’s long-term transportation vision, overall goals, targets, policy direction, and investment priorities.
