HandyDART expands hours and takes first steps toward going digital

HandyDART users know how much a reliable ride matters. For many, transit does more than move people from point A to point B — it connects them to opportunities and their community. Our latest improvements deliver more flexibility and freedom, ensuring riders can reach the people and places that matter most.

Later service hours mean more freedom

Starting Jan. 11, HandyDART service hours will extend until 2 a.m., bringing the service more in line with SkyTrain operating hours.

These extra hours provide more than a ride home; they offer peace of mind. Riders can now attend late-night work shifts, concerts, sports games and other community events without the stress of watching the clock. By eliminating the ‘Will I make it home in time?’ worry, we’re helping HandyDART users trade the rush of a transit schedule for the freedom to stay as long as they want.

“Extending HandyDART hours gives me the same late-night flexibility as everyone else in Metro Vancouver,” says HandyDART customer Brian Gibney. “This change will help me go to more late-night events like concerts, festivals, or sporting events without having to race home afterward. I also welcome the step towards online booking – a much-needed improvement so that I can book trips online and see where my vehicle is in real time.”

Online booking puts you in control

Along with longer hours, HandyDART is moving toward a digital, user-friendly future. We’ve partnered with Vancouver-based tech company Spare, bringing us one step closer to implementing software that will allow users and caregivers to book and cancel trips online 24/7, see real-time vehicle location, and receive notifications as their ride approaches. The platform will also streamline feedback, registration, and applications.

These improvements are part of our broader HandyDART Customer-First Plan — a roadmap designed to enhance service, accessibility, and rider experience. It follows recent upgrades like Compass on HandyDART vehicles, simplified fare structures for youth and seniors, and modernized cancellation policies. These changes have helped lead to HandyDART being one of our highest-rated services, with customers giving it an

Transportation shapes how people live, work, and participate in their communities. By expanding service hours and bringing online booking into reach, HandyDART isn’t just improving trips — it’s helping our customers live fuller, more connected lives. These updates are also a reminder of what’s possible when a transit system listens, adapts, and keeps accessibility a priority.
