Check out Transit Security’s new hybrid patrol cars
Transit Security’s new hybrid patrol cars are not only better for the environment, they also sport an updated look.
Five new hybrid Ford Explorers can now be seen driving the streets of Metro Vancouver. They are the first hybrid vehicles for Transit Security, replacing patrol vehicles that had reached end of life.
Transit Security officers travel by transit, foot, and in their patrol cars during shifts.
Requests for assistance come in from across the transit system and the Metro Vancouver region. It ranges from transit operators requesting help with customers and conducting fare checks, to traveling from their base at Columbia Station to respond to urgent calls.
Transit Security also participates in community and jurisdictional police partnerships. This includes with City of Surrey’s bylaw enforcement division, as well as with North Vancouver RCMP to conduct crime prevention patrols.
With a lot of ground to cover, these new vehicles will help them do it in a more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly way. How we move has a major impact on climate change. We are committed to net-zero GHG emissions by 2050 within our operations. Transitioning to a low-carbon fleet will help us minimize our environmental impact, while maintaining a state of good repair.
Later this year, Transit Security will receive an additional four vehicles to help expand their current fleet.

Special thanks to photographer Mikey Enriquez and Transit Security’s Shawn Blackwell for capturing these photos.
That’s great! I really like the fact that they’re better on the environment. I’m happy that these fine peace officers continue to serve us with pride. Stay safe.
